Almost entire PC the size of an SD card from which it boots has hit the US shores and they fly out the door

As if it weren’t enough for almost an entire computer to be sold for $35 (the Raspberry Pi Model B Revision 2.0), the makers of the Raspberry Pi now send their Raspberry Pi Model A to the United States for sale for a mere $25 – and it sells in a single day.

When it comes to the differences between the Model A and Model B, according to Wikipedia, “Though the Model A doesn’t have an 8P8C (RJ45) Ethernet port, it can connect to a network by using a user-supplied USB Ethernet or Wi-Fi adapter. There is in reality no difference between a model A with an external Ethernet adapter and a model B with one built in, because the Ethernet port of the model B is actually a built-in USB Ethernet adapter.” According to one blogger, Steve Robillard, the model A is said to offer a “small advantage of using less power, hence it can be powered by 500 mA power supplies.”

The Raspberry Pi has been able to be purchased in other parts of the world for quite some time now. In fact the maker of the Pi is a British foundation that goes by the same name http://www.raspberrypi.org. Here’s a look at part of their Pi assembly line:

The site used for distributing the Model A version of the Raspberry Pi to U.S. customers is Allied Electronics. They’ve posted a notice saying that, “Due to limited supply of the Raspberry Pi Model A, we are not offering preorders or backorders on the product at this time. The Raspberry Pi Model A will only be available for purchase when we have inventory on hand to fill the order. We regret this inconvenience and sincerely thank you for your patience.” According to some reports, there may have been less than 100 units actually sent for sale.
